LA garden show

I’m a little behiind with this. We went to the LA Garden Show at the LA County Arboretum last weekend. I didn’t take a ‘real’ camera. I figured if I wanted to take any pictures, iPhone snapshots would be fine, little did I know there would be wildlife just begging to be photographed. So here are some not-so-good snapshots of wildlife (that I possibly hurt more than I helped with post production).

There were probably about 25 peacocks just hanging out in various parts of the gardens. I had heard they were obnoxiously loud, but who knew that they sound like very large meowing cats? We definitely want to go back and take some better shots of them. They’re amazing. Also, evidently unpredictable and potentially mean.

The only thing louder and more obnoxious than the peacocks were the guinea hens. And not quite as pretty.

Besides these normal attractions of the Arboretum, there were garden chats (which we didn’t get to hit this time), plant sales (which we also didn’t hit this time), and various garden related vendors. We only bought some Napa Wildflower honey from Pollen.

But there were lots of things that we would have liked to buy funds permitting. So in the interest of documenting what we saw and who had it for sale, I’m going to keep track of that here.

bench
A nice, modern looking bench that would be lovely with our house. From Jackalope

Several nice items from Potted.
chairs
bench and chairs
The chairs and bench were definitely out of budget for now, but we almost bought this rug…
rug…which was made from recycled plastic bottles. But I’ve never been too successful using outdoor rugs. I like the idea of them better than I like the reality of them.

A couple other interesting furniture items…
pine table
From Newtiques in La Crescenta…no website listed on their card.

low table
We didn’t get a card on this…but it was something I thought I’d take a stab at making (if it stuck in my mind and I felt I needed one.)

And last, but not least…
iron items
…I STILL want a little covey of quail for my garden. Cheesy, I know. But we’ve seen them in our travels, and I’ve almost bought them several times. I passed once again. But maybe a loved one will see this and take pity on me. Maybe they’ll end up in my yard sometime. (I was alone in my love of the ‘flat’ ones, my husband and mother-in-law both liked the sculptural ones. But I didn’t like their scale. I want the flat ones.) I have a card from this place in Long Beach, but it’s MIA right now.

My mother-in-law and I went to this show, we think it was the same one, several years ago and loved it. It was even better this year. I think next year we plan one day with the husbands, and one day without…planned around when there are interesting garden chats.

It was a nice, nice day.

There was the cutest cub scout/boy scout holed up in one of those chairs. I was dying to snap a picture, but I didn’t want to get hauled off by security for snapping pictures of random kids or something. But I’ve got the nice memory.

We liked both those chairs and the red and blue ones that the bench is like. Wouldn’t those look great with my house?

    And thanks.
